Overview
The Breastfeeding Center of Pittsburgh is here to assist you with any breastfeeding concerns you may have, or any issues you may be experiencing.
Whether you need just general breastfeeding guidance, or if you have problems with latch, milk supply, or pain with feedings – we’re here to help.
Our three offices are conveniently located north, central and south of Pittsburgh. All offices are staffed by International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs).
An IBCLC is a health care professional who specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding and is certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE). We’re proud to have 15 IBCLCs on staff at the Breastfeeding Center.
You and your baby are uniquely tied to each other- especially when it comes to breastfeeding. Therefore, both you and your baby will be seen and evaluated by one of our providers, with yours and your newborn vitals taken at the time of the consult. For you, it may include a breast exam to assess for any nipple damage, blood pressure check and temperature. Infants will be weighed and then be further assessed by the medical provider.
First, you’ll meet with your lactation consultant, who will observe your baby feeding at the breast and listen to any concerns you may have. The LC will address these issues with the medical provider. Through this team approach, a personalized care plan will be created to address the needs of you and your baby.
Your lactation consultant will call you after your visit to see how you and baby are doing. Follow-up appointments may be recommended if additional, ongoing support is needed.
