Moms Love the Breastfeeding Center

So much, in fact, that they wanted to share their stories with you…

When I experienced a lactation issue recently, Michelle at the front desk was able to get us in right away. She went out of her way. She took the time to get us some advice over the phone, and really helped us. We ended up seeing Val in lactation. She was incredibly efficient and helped me immensely. She spent so much time with me sharing her expertise. I attribute my continued success breastfeeding to her. She even called to follow up with me. Thank you for your awesome, dedicated staff!!

The BFC came highly recommended by my Bradley Method instructor. My son was born a little early & breastfeeding for us was challenging! Through multiple visits and phone calls, I received much needed support and techniques to aid in making breastfeeding successful for me and my baby. My son is now 7.5 months old and still happily breastfeeding. I would definitely recommend the BFC to all moms & moms to be. : )

I have seen Tara for my lactation class, and she totally changed my and my baby’s lives!

Only a few days after my labor, I was desperate and ready to cry. My baby wasn’t latching on well and he needed to gain weight. Tara immediately made us feel welcome and at ease. She explained everything very well and allowed me to ask many, many questions. At the end of the class, I felt so happy, like a new person! I saw the light at the end of the tunnel! I was so relieved and at that point I realized that we were going to be “ok”. Thanks to Tara and her expertise, I was able to breastfeed my baby boy and form a very special bond with him.

I will forever be grateful and thankful to Tara and the Breastfeeding Center. I am so fortunate they exist.

I was beyond pleased with my experience at the Breastfeeding Center of Pittsburgh! The front office staff was responsive to my questions, accommodating to my schedule, and extremely welcoming on the day of my appointment. My lactation consultant was friendly, empathetic, and exceedingly knowledgeable. She laid many of my anxieties to rest, while also boosting my confidence in my breastfeeding success.

A truly unique aspect of the BFC is the incorporation of an appointment with a pediatrician, even if your child is not a patient of their affiliated pediatric practice. This multi-disciplinary approach makes for a comprehensive visit during which I felt truly heard. As a mother and a pediatrician, I highly recommend the BFC!

The Breastfeeding Center was an invaluable resource to me. As a first time mom, I was welcomed with open arms by Jill and the entire team. Breastfeeding can be quite daunting at first… am I producing enough? Is the baby comfortable? So many questions. Luckily, if you need to be seen by a LC or speak to one on the phone, The Breastfeeding Center is always there for you, and quickly! My goal was to nurse my baby boy for six months. But I loved it so much and it created such a bond, that we continued much longer than my goal.

Mothers and children need advocates, and the Breastfeeding Center is that for sure!

I worked with Dr. Jenna Zarit when my daughter was a newborn. We were having a difficult time establishing breastfeeding. I had worked with other lactation consultants who had given me mixed advice, and I was still pretty lost by the end of her first week of life. Getting her latched well was a struggle, and she had lost a significant amount of weight. I was anxious, and worried that I would be unable to nurse my baby.

I was lucky to meet Dr. Zarit (who is both a skilled pediatrician and a lactation consultant). Her relaxed bedside manner quickly calmed my nerves. She was very approachable, and it was easy to ask her questions without feeling self-conscious. She gave me several useful suggestions for improving my daughter’s latch, and gently helped us with positioning without being obtrusive. I felt much more comfortable, and my daughter’s latch improved dramatically even in just the one session that we worked together.

Dr. Zarit was also realistic, and reminded me that “not all feeds will go as well, but just keep practicing” — which was helpful to keep in mind over the next several days. By the end of the second week of life, she had regained her birth weight, and was being exclusively breastfed.

Dr. Zarit’s impact did not end there. She also gave me resources for further learning on my own, and gave practical guidance about pumping and returning to work. I used the skills, resources, and advice she gave me throughout the time that I breastfed my daughter (which thankfully lasted to her first birthday, and beyond!).

I will be forever grateful for the gift that Dr. Zarit was able to help me to give my child.
